Building a Mentally Healthy Nation

Sixty million Americans suffer from mental illness every year, and due in large part to lack of information, misunderstanding and stigma, over 40% of those individuals will go without necessary treatment.

The APA Foundation partners with schools, judges, employers, local officials, and current and future psychiatrists to fill that information gap, provide resources and fight ongoing stigma surrounding mental illness and treatment.

Demand for the Foundation's programs is at an all-time high, and we need your help to meet it.

Would you consider a tax-deductible gift to one of the Foundation’s innovative programs?

Here are some of the ways your donation impacts the lives of people suffering from mental illness around the country:

To date, our Typical or Troubled?® program has trained teachers and personnel at 1,000+ schools on early mental illness warning signs and intervention tactics. With your donation, we can meet the weekly requests for more trainings at more schools in 2017.

Each year, the Foundation sponsors over $600,000 in medical student and residency fellowships/grants. With your donation, we can continue to foster interest in the field of psychiatry and support the next generation of psychiatric community leaders.

The 2016 National Stepping Up Summit hosted 50 teams of county officials eager to learn how to reduce the overcriminalization of individuals with mental illness. Your gift will help us host state-level summits in 2017 for the 140+ additional teams that applied for the national summit, and many more.

The Partnership for Workplace Mental Health connects 10,000+ companies with resources to improve identification and intervention of mental illness in their workplaces. Your gift will help us grow our network of employers dedicated to improving their employee's mental health.
