Annual Fund

The American Psychiatric Association Foundation's Annual Fund is organized on a yearly basis to gain unrestricted support for programs.The current use funds raised by the Annual Fund provide our programs and initiatives the flexibility they may need to respond quickly to new opportunities or to meet unexpected needs. APA Foundation asks Members to consider charitable contributions twice a year, but gifts are always welcomed year round.

If you are more comfortable making a donation by credit card over the phone, we understand! You may do so by contacting our office at 703-907-8512.

Donate Securities
Stocks, bonds, or mutual funds that you have owned for more than one year may be donated, which might allow you to bypass capital gains taxes in addition to deducting their current value. You will need to contact your broker in writing indicating your wish to give appreciated securities to APA Foundation. For a sample letter, click here. Your broker will need to contact the Foundation to electronically transfer the securities.

Matching Gifts
Many companies have matching gift programs that will double or even triple charitable contributions made by their employees. Find out if your company will match gifts and ask your human resources department for a matching gift form and mail it to:

No matter how you donate, your Annual Fund contribution will be put to work immediately to support:

  • Mental health educational programs and grants for schools;
  • Mental health training for businesses and the criminal justice system;
  • Research training and health services research;
  • Collaboration on, and syndication support for, an Emmy nominated PBS series Healthy Minds;
  • Counseling and support for members of the military and their families;
  • Awards and grants to early career researchers;
  • Awards for research development in psychobiological psychiatry;
  • Fellowships and grants to minority students entering the field of psychiatry;
  • Grants to medical students to develop community service projects;
  • Programs to strengthen the field of psychiatry and support for physicians.
